Asia Bizz: Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki has planned to shift the production of its Swift DZire car to a plant in Gurgaon. Earlier, the sedan was being produced in Manesar, where some labour problems had disturbed the production last month.
The layout changes for the production of the sedan will soon be made by the company at the Gurgaon plant. The spokesperson from Maruti had said that certain changes have been made in the production plans which, will are expected to be carried out from next week.
Swift will continue to be manufactured at the Manesar plant, the spokesperson added. Last month, a 13 day worker’s strike at the Manesar plant had halted work. The Swift DZire is the India’s largest selling sedan and the company could not afford any further delay in the production.
The Sedan was launched in the year 2008 and has a waiting period of almost six months. The plant in Gurgaon currently produces the Alto, Estilo, WagonR , Ritz and Eeco models. Till a few months back, the plant in Gurgaon was producing the Swift model, after which the company decided to shift the production to the Manesar plant to meet the rising demands of the car. A second plant in Manesar is likely to open in the month of September 2011.
