Asia Bizz: After the e-ticketing service that was introduced in India, the Indian Railways have now announced the M-ticketing service through which passengers can get their railway tickets on their mobile phones. Now passengers travelling by train do not have to worry about getting their tickets printed anymore, as they need to only show the ticket they receive via SMS.
The passengers can now book the tickets through their mobile phones, with the help of a phone-based booking system, after which the passenger has to just carry the display ticket, which has been sent via SMS on the phone.
A senior Railway Ministry official said that the passengers have to now just show the SMS sent to their mobile phones, instead of carrying the hard copy of the ticket. The passenger friendly-facility was inaugurated by the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata on Thursday.
According to the railway official, the passenger has to just download the application on the mobile phone with the help of an internet connection from the Indian Railways portal.
The facility of the M-ticket is a part of the already existing web portal of the Indian railways, www.indianrailways.gov.in. After the completion of the booking and the payment of the ticket on the mobile phone, an SMS of the ticket will be sent to the mobile phone, which is known as the Mobile Reservation Message. Moreover, the cost of the MRM shall be borne by the Indian Railways.
