Asia Bizz: Veteran remote sensing applications scientist, Dr. VS Hegde, has been announced as the new chairman-cum-manager by the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). Hedge has been appointed for the marketing arm of the Antrix Corporation Limited.
Hedge has been a Scientific Secretary at the Bangalore headquartered ISRO since January 2010. Prior to this position, the scientist also played a major role in the Earth observation satellite programmes.
The announcement of the appointment was made by chairman of ISRO K Radhakrishnan. The appointment of Hegde is a part of the plans to restructure the Antrix according to the the changing times.
Certain changes are being planned in the Antrix so that it can deal with all the commercial opportunities that evolve out of the programmes of the space agency. There are also plans to strengthen with the constitution of a co-ordination management committee with the interface between ISRO and Antrix. The co-ordination management committee consists of senior directors of ISRO and the CMD of Antrix.
At a press conference, Radhakrishnan said that this kind of system will ensure the right kind of sharing of resources. He also added that it would also ensure the appropriate allocation of resources priorities and experts for Antrix.
Antrix has been involved in the commercial exploitation and promotion of the space products and was established in the year 1992.
