Asia Bizz: German auto giant BMW will soon be launching a small luxury car, Mini, in the Indian market. The company has said that the car is expected to be launched by the year 2012 and the price of the new car is expected to be above 25 lakh Indian rupees.
BMW has also said that they would set up separate showrooms for the brand in India and aims to have at least 12 dealerships across the country in the upcoming years. BMW India president Andreas Schaaf had said that they are pleased to announce that the Mini will be launch in India in 2012 and the BMW team is currently evaluating which version of the Mini should be launched in Indian from the whole Mini family.
Schaaf also said that the Mini would be sold in India through the import of completely built in units (CBU). In the year 2009, the car maker had planned to launch the Mini in the Indian market, but had dropped the plan stating feasibility reasons.
Talking about the price of the car, the president said that the price has not yet been finalized, but as it is a premium brand and a premium car, the price of the car is expected to be above Rs. 25 lakhs.
