Asia Bizz: Indian auto giant Maruti Suzuki has now planned to enter the SUV segment as the competition in the small car segment has increased significantly. The SUV concept of the company would be unveiled at the Auto Expo that will be held in Delhi in the month of January 2012.
One of the executives from the company, on the condition of anonymity, said that the segment of SUV has grown significantly in the recent years and that Maruti Suzuki now wants to see its presence in the segment also. The executive added that the model would take at least two years to be production ready.
The other details about its engine and specifications would soon be worked out by the company. Another executive said that a new car from Maruti Suzuki would be unveiled at the Expo, but did not confirm if it would be an SUV. In India, around 7% to 8 % percent of cars sold are SUVs according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufactures. In the segment, Tata Motors and Mahindra and Mahindra are the ones that dominated in the country.
It is expected that in future the market of the SUV is expected to increase and more such vehicles would be introduced by more companies in the market.
