Asia Bizz: Telephones have been an important part of our daily lives for years, be it fixed or mobile phones. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recently released data which has mentioned that the total number of phone lines in India has crossed 900 million for the first time in the month of September, 2011.
The figures released are a total of lines including mobile as well as fixed lines. The recent statistics have revealed that there are 873.613 million mobile connections and 33.312 million fixed lines in the country, that comes to a total of 906.925 million.
As per the calculations, the state owned telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) added some 0.38 million new users to the list and took the total number of users to 95.79 million. On the other hand, MTNL added 28,360 new users to the list of services in the month.
The officials at a point noticed that there was a decline in the number of landlines and the mobile phone connections continued to rise. By the end of September, the reports said that the number of landline connections declined by 750,000. On the other hand, the private mobile operators like Idea Cellular Ltd. and Uninor added 7.9 million new connections on the list.
