Asia Bizz: Japanese electronics giant Sony has launched its first tablet PC in the Indian market on December 14, 2011. Sony also unveiled its 3G tablets which will be launched in India by the middle of January 2012.
Masaru Tamagawa, the managing director of Sony, said the tablets support Wi Fi connectivity and will be launching the 3G tablets in the month of January 2012.
Tamagawa added that they expect the 3G enabled tablets to contribute 80 percent to their total tablet sales during this financial year. There are two models of the Wi Fi version, S and P, and are based on the Android platform of Google.
The price of the tablet will start from Rs.29,990 onwards. The managing director also stated that they are currently in talks with some of the telecom operators in the country to bundle the tablets with their services. The tablet P is the 3G version and will be the first tablet to have a dual screen and can also be folded. The screens can be used for single as well as for two separate functions.
The 3G tablet is expected to be priced at Rs. 36,990. For the promotion of the tablets, Sony has invested Rs. 10 crores in the last quarter of the financial year.
