Asia Bizz: After cutting the prices of the PlayBook, BlackBerry maker RIM has stated that the device has been sold out in the retail stores across the Indian market. The company had slashed the prices of the tablet by 50 % during the year-end festive season.

Sunil Dutt, the managing director of Research In Motion, said that the company is  pleased to see the response and excitement to their limited festive season offer on BlackBerry’s PlayBook. Dutt added that the 16 GB and the 32 GB versions of the tablet are completely sold out in the retail markets.

Dutt also announced that looking at the tremendous response, the company has now decided to extend the offer by a week. The offer was announced on December 28 and just in four days it sold 12,000 devices.

The distributors Redington and Ingram are now waiting for the new stock. According to the distributors the limited festive offers has propelled a huge surge in the purchase of the PlayBook in the last few days. In the upcoming days, fresh stock will be coming in to cater to the demand of the extended offer for another week.

The PlayBook is now available for Rs. 13,490 for the 16 GB version so that the company can have the advantage of the festive season.
