Asia Bizz: The South Korean government has given approval to the Samsung Electronics Co. for building a flash memory manufacturing plant in China. This will help the company to create a foothold in the country which could ultimately become the world’s largest market for consumer electronics.
The plant is reported to make NAND flash memory chips which will be mainly used in music players and the handsets. It will have a capacity to produce 100,000 wafers per month. On January 4, 2012, the ministry of Knowledge Economy spoke about the plant and its capacity.
The construction of the plant is expected to begin within the next six months and the production is likely to begin in the second half of this year. The Chinese government is yet to give approval for the construction.
The government – as a part of the condition the company – has to to put in place the measures so as to protect against the possible leakage of the South Korean Technologies. A spokesperson of the Samsung said that it is committed to fully co-operate and comply with the government’s request to ensure the security of technology . The spokes person added that they will also trying their best to meet the consumer demands for flash chips through the new plant.
