Asia Bizz: In some good news for all those who missed the online booking of the popular Aakash tablet, the device might soon be available in colleges on rent. In the future there are possibilities that the low-priced tablet PC might be available on rent in college libraries.
The tablet which will be available on rent will be pre-loaded with subject-wise video lectures in the various fields like science, humanities and engineering. The Indian government aims at connecting 220 million school and college students.
The step of renting the tab will in a way help the government to reach its target. The duration of the rental will be decided by the respective colleges.
One of the government officials, on the condition of anonymity, said that they will have to find ways for its optimum utilization. Since the launch of the tablet in the year 2010, the government has distributed more than 10,000 units to the students. At present, the units are in a testing phase and are given to the students under the undertaking that they will be returned after using them for some months. The Centre is now working on the specifications of the 2.0 tablet which will be having a capacitive touch screen like that of the popular iPad of Apple.
