Asia Bizz: Japanese-based company Sony recently said that its PlayStation Vita handheld entertainment gadgets will be making its way in the US market or the first time on February 22, 2012. The gadgets will be entering the market with access to popular streaming film and television service Netflix.

The company will also make its own Music Unlimited service available on the Vita devices when they are launched in the US market. The devices were first launched in Asia in the month of December 2011.

Kazuo Hirai, the executive deputy president, revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show 2012 that they have sold half a million Vita devices since its launch. The new PlayStation Vita aims at taking a bit of the market of the growing smartphone games.

The features of the device include a 12 centimeter LED touchscreen, GPS receiver, two cameras and is available in 3G and Wi-Fi variants. Earlier it was Nintendo’s Game Boy, that was released in the year 1989, which dominated the handheld game market till the mid 2000’s. Lately, the introduction of the iPhone and the Android games is threatening the existence of the game specific handheld devices. For the smartphones, the applications like Angry Birds and Scrabble are popular in the market.
