Asia Bizz: Indian auto giant Bajaj Auto showcased its first four wheeler ‘RE60’ at the Auto Expo 2012, which concluded on January 11, 2012. Before the Expo began, there were reports that Bajaj would introduce a four-wheeler which is expected to give fierce competition to the existing small car Nano of Tata Motors.

But when the model was revealed, Rajiv Bajaj, the Managing director,  clarified that it is not a car but is a four wheeler vehicle. The model has been designed in collaboration with Renault as well as Nissan. Bajaj said that the intra-city passenger vehicle has been designed to replace the existing three wheelers in the country.

Rajiv also said that in terms of marketing position, Bajaj is an anti-car company and their core customers will be the ones who are the users of three wheelers.

The new RE60 is expected to be launched in the upcoming few months and will be manufactured at the company’s Aurangabad plant.

The model will be known as the green vehicle as it would release only 60g/km of CO2. The new Bajaj four wheeler will also give impressive mileage of nearly 40kmpl and will be considered as one of the most fuel efficient cars in the Indian market.
