Asia Bizz: After a long wait, the auto rickshaws in Delhi will soon be fitted with GPS systems . DIMTS, the entity incharge of the project, has been asked by the transport department to empanel vendors who will be supplying the GPS devices to the three wheeler auto rickshaws.
The process of the empaneling will take about a month and so the devices are expected to be installed by the month of March. After Empanelling, the government will bring out the notification for installing the GPS systems in the auto rickshaws.
The authorities are also working on the comprehensive auto rickshaw policy for the addition of 45,000 new autos, which is a part of the court directive. The new meters will have GPS and also a printer, so that the commuters do not have the idea of the route but can have a receipt for the fare.
Some of the sources from the government say that the drivers and the owners will be given time to install the device. They will take some six months to ensure that all the TSRs have the GPS device. The existing 55,000 rickshaws and the new 45,000 TSRs will be having the GPs device.
