Asia Bizz: The managing director of media and platforms for Google’s Asia Pacific operations, Shailesh Rao has quit his post from the search engine giant on February 3, 2012. Rao will now be joining the most popular micro blogging site Twitter as the vice president of international operations.

A spokesperson from Google confirmed the news and said that they thank Shailesh for his fantastic contributions to Google and Google India, in particular. The spokesperson added that the company wishes him the best in his future endeavors.

Shailesh joined the internet giant’s California Headquarters in March 2005 as the director, local search. Here he was responsible worldwide Google Local services and channel programme.

Rao had also helped in the launch of the Google Maps and Google Earth in the parts of Asia, Latin America and Western Europe. In the year 2007, Rao moved to India and headed the Indian operations of the company. Earlier the former managing director was employed with the banking software firm Yodlee and AOL. Shailesh has done BA from the University of Pennsylvania and BS from the Wharton School in Finance. He has also done MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.
