Asia Bizz: After the uproar created following the presentation of the 2012 Rail Budget, it has now been clarified that Railway minister Dinesh Trivedi will not be resigning. Pranab Mukherjee, the senior Congress leader has clarified in Lok Sabha that Trivedi has not been asked to resign.
Mukherjee also said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has received communication from Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress Chief and that her request is under active consideration. The minister even denied that the PM has received any letter of resignation from the railway minister.
The party leader said that when the government takes any action on the issue then the House will be informed. Even TMC leader Sudip Bandopadhyay said on the floor of the House that the party had not asked Trivedi to resign.
Yesterday, Trivedi presented the railway budget in which the minister announced a nominal increase in fares. This left Trinamool Congress chief upset and demanded that the railway minister must resign or withdraw the increased fares. TV reports say that the government has convinced Banerjee to allow Dinesh to continue till the passage of the railway budget. The discussion on the railway budget is expected to start in the afternoon on March 15, 2012.
