Asia Bizz: When it comes to air travel in India, Kingfisher Airlines isn’t the only carrier that seems to be facing problems. The national carrier Air India might face some major problems with its employees as they haven’t been paid salaries in months and this has led to the possibility of a strike in the month of April 2012.
The Air India employees have not been paid their salaries for the past five months and on March 22, 2012, the employees have threatened to go on strike from April 2. Till now three rounds of talks with the management have failed in Mumbai.
Sources familiar with the issues revealed that the union has also asked for a written commitment from the management that it would clear the entire dues before April 1, 2012. People from the union said that as many as seven unions out of 13 had three rounds of meetings with the management on March 22, 2012, but they could not give them a written commitment for the full payment of their salaries as well as performance linked incentives, which have not been paid for the past five months.
One of the senior Indian Pilots Guild official said that they are firm on their decision to go ahead with the strike from April 2, for which they had given a notice a month ago. The senior official added that they will reverse their decision if their dues are cleared before April 1, 2012.
