Asia Bizz: Chinese workers at the Apple assembly factories will soon be receiving a pay hike. The workers who used to spend more than 60 hours per week while assembling the iPhones and iPads, will have their overtime curbed and will also receive a raise in their salary.
The decision was taken after a labor inspector was hired by Apple Inc, who then inspected the factories in China. The Fair Labour Association has said that the Hon Hai Precision Industry Co, a Taiwanese company, is committing to a reduction of weekly work time to 49 hours.
The limit is the Chinese legal maximum and is routinely ignored in factories throughout China. The CEO of FLA, Auret Van Heerden said that Hon Hao, which is also known as Foxconn industry, has agreed to commit to the legal standards.
The guidelines for Apple and FLA for working hours is 60 hours or less and the move by Foxconn is likely to affect the global technology industry. In China, the company employs 1.2 million workers to assemble products for Apple as well as HP, Microsoft Corp and other major companies. Foxconn industries is actually the last step for manufacturing the Apple iPhone and other devices.
