The General Motors India will hire up to 1,000 people in India by the end of 2010 as it is increasing output to meet  local demand for its cars and to strengthen its automotive engineering design capabilities.
The company will hire 150 to 200 engineers at its powertrain center in the technology hub of Bangalore, and around 800 employees for its two factories in India, where it is looking to ramp up capacity to meet booming customer demand.
The GM india makes seven cars and sport-utility vehicles of the Chevrolet range, including the Spark minicar, the Aveo and Cruze sedans, and the Captiva SUV.
To meet increasing demand, the company plans to start in June a third shift of production at its factory at Halol in the western state of Gujarat
