Asia Bizz: On April 12, 2012, a top official stated that problems in the global slowdown in the aviation industry might pull down passenger traffic growth from Hyderabad airport this year. In the recent months a slowdown has been noticed in the aviation industry due to certain economic factors.
Vikram Jaisinghani, the CEO of GMR Hyderabad International Airport said that the airport registered a 13 percent growth of passenger traffic last year due to the domestic demand. Jaisinghani added that maintaining the pace of growth this year might be a challenging task.
Vikram in a press conference said, “As Indian economy is robust, we don’t see much slowdown. But to maintain last years growth rate will be (a) challenge. It might be slightly lower number this year than what we recorded in the last two years. Impact of global slowdown will add to this.” During the last financial year, the airport handled 8.6 million of which 1.9 million passengers were international.
The CEO stated that he expects to see some bilateral agreements staking to take place this year, which might even see some international destinations being added from the Hyderabad airport during the winter schedule. Jaisinghani revealed that the airport made profits last year and is also expected to make profits this year as well.
