The makers of the ‘world’s cheapest tablet’, Datawind has sent a legal notice to the Indian Cellular Association (ICA) for defaming the firm and issuing statements that harm the commercial interests of the company. Datawind has been in news since the launch of the tablet Aakash.
Suneet Singh Tuli the CEO of Datawind said, “We have sent a legal notice to them for spreading false reports against us in the media and in government meetings including places such as the department of IT”. In the first press conference after the launch of the Aakash tablet, Tuli said that some of the local tablet makers as well as the members of the Indian Cellular Association, who lost the tender of Aakash I to Datawind and are spreading defamatory statements.
Pankaj Mohindroo, the president of Indian Cellular Association confirmed that he has received the legal notice from Datawind. Mohindroo said, “The legal notice is baseless. As an association we get invited to consult government on various issues.”
The president of the ICA also said that there are about 40 tablet makers in the market and that only 7 or 8 of them are their members. Tuli in a conference on April 20, 2012 said that he would share with the media, the details of the wire-transfer payment to Quad.
