ZTE Corp, the China based telecommunications based equipment company said that it would ship 100 million smartphones a year by the year 2015. The company launched its first basic mobile phone in Africa ten years back and is these days struggling in the handset market.
Last year ZTE sold about 15 million handsets and this year there are possibilities that the company could sell up to 50 million. The company also assured that it would launch its first two phone – cum – tablets also known as ‘phablets’ this year.
With the new device ZTE is hoping to come up in the competitive market of China. In terms of mobile sale ZTE has scored far better than the rival Huawei Technologies Co Ltd.
The company is the world’s 4th handset producer and fifth ranked telecom gear maker, but lags behind in terms of the telecom equipment business with the local company. Both the companies have their own different products like the dongles, smartphones and tablets so as to boost the revenue growth while the telecom sector stagnates. Research firm Gartner said that a total of 472 million smartphones were sold around the globe last year. At present ZTE plans to focus on its Blade and Skate handphone models.
