The good old scooter generation has been brought back to the Indian market by Piaggio. The new Vespa has been launched in the market under its original brand Piaggio.
The new Vespa LX 125 is the best selling scooter in Europe and has been launched in the Indian market at Rs.66,661 ex-showroom, Maharashtra. The new Vespa has been positioned at a 15 to 25% price premium over the already existing competitors like Suzuki Access, Honda Activa and Mahindra Duro.
The CMD of Pioggio vehicles Private Limited, Ravi Chopra said, “We could not have launched Vespa at better time than this. The scooter market is fastest growing segment in the country and the Indian consumers has evolved today aspiring to own more lifestyle products and Vespa fits in perfectly.” The company has high hopes with the launch scooter in the Indian market as it is considered as one of the most lucrative markets in the world.
In the year 2011, Piaggio sold 1,50,000 Vespa scooters globally. The new scooter will be available across 50 dealerships across 35 cities. The company is now also planning to double the production of the scooter in the market so as to cope up with the rising demand.
