Hundreds of Japanese protestors gathered outside the Prime Minister’s office in Tokyo, chanting slogans and beating drums. The protestors were protesting against the plan to restart the reactors of the nuclear plant.
The nuclear plant was shut down after a massive disaster last year on March 11. The reactors were shut down after the massive tsunami and earthquake, that was considered as the world’s worst nuclear disaster in 25 years.
A crowd of about 1,000 turned up and shouted, “We oppose restarts,”. After the major disaster, the public has lost the trust on the nuclear power, which threatened several lives.
Protestors stretched for around 200 meters down the block and shouted in a peaceful demonstration. All of the Japan’s 54 nuclear power plants have been put off after the major disaster on March 11, 2011. The plants had once supplied about 30% of the country’s energy requirements. This has left Japan vulnerable to power outages during summer. Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda on May 30 said that it is essential to restart the idle reactors whose safety has been confirmed and the central government is winning the understanding of the local authorities. A group of regional governors have signalled their agreement to restart the reactors.
