The digitalization of cable TV services in the four metro cities in the country will have to wait for four months beyond July 1. The digitalization of the cable TV was supposed to be introduced on July 1.
The decision to postpone the plan to switchover from analogue to digitalized signals was announced by the government on June 20, 2012. The announcement came from the government after it found that the metro cities Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata and Mumbai were not ready for it.
A statement was issued by the I&B Ministry on Wednesday which said, “The ministry of information and broadcasting has decided to modify the 30th June deadline for a complete switch over to 31st October 2012”. The statement also added, “All the TRAI regulations for digital addressable system will come into effect from 1st November, 2012”.
The government said that the assessment from the ground realities compelled the ministry of I&B to set a new deadline which would be monitored more vigorously. The government had set a target to digitalize the cable services in the whole country by the year 2014. The installation of the set top boxes in each cable viewing household is a pre condition of the digitalization as per the officials.
