The Mantralaya building in Mumbai, that caught fire on June 21, 2012 has been doused. The fire fighters worked throughout the night on Thursday to control the fire. Reports say that three people have died out of which one is yet to be identified.
Many people are still missing after 3,000 people were evacuated to safety.The main focus is now on the cooling operation which will take about 48 hours. The PWD has been directed by the Chief Secretary to carry out structural audit once the building is declared safe by the fire department.
The Maharashtra Cabinet will be meeting to discuss the situation. After the major fire accident, it can take a while before the building can be re-occupied. The power supplies cannot be restore before all the electrical are restored.
Many of the files in the offices of the Chief Minister and his deputy have been gutted in fire. Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Prithvi Raj Chavan has asked the Crime Branch to investigate the incident. On the other hand the opposition has demanded an independent probe as it suspects a sabotage angle as the files related to the Adarsh and other scams were kept in the secretariat. The Central Bureau of Investigation on Thursday said that all the files related to Adarsh scam were in it.
