In some good news for the citizens of Bangalore, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRC) is now all set to test trains in its north depot. Work will begin by charging the tracks in the Peenya depot on June 27 and test three rakes.
However, the BMRC has denied the news about the rumours that the chief minister announced the trial runs between Rajajinagar and Peenya on June 27. N Sivasailam, an official from BMRC said, “The trial run is in the depot and not on the main line. The trains are first tested on the test track in the depot. The train systems and traction power systems will undergo elaborate tests for the next three months”.
The Peenya depot has the longest testing track of 1.2 km, which is more than Byappanahalli. The static tests of the trains will include opening of the doors and electric connections inside the coaches.
The motions tests of the trains include running of trains, distance brake tests and speed. The northern corridor will have nine stations, Srirampura, Malleshwaram, Rajajinagar, Kuvempu Road, Yeshwantpur, Soap Factory, Mahalakshmi, Yeshwantpur Industry and Peenya. The trial run between Byappanahalli and MG Road stations began on February 16, 2011. The commercial operations was launched on October 20, 2011.
