The health condition of the Union Science and Technology Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has deteriorated and is reportedly on life support system. The Minister is currently undergoing treatment at the Global Hospital in Chennai.
The doctors in Chennai on August 6, 2012 said that his condition is critical and is sufferring from a serious liver ailment as well as multiple organ failure. Deshmukh’s son Riteish Deshmukh said that he wants to donate a part of his liver to his ailing father.
After the Bollywood actor’s proposal the doctors have started examining whether the tissues of father and son match or not. The transplant rules say that the doctors can conduct liver transplant on the minister only after an authorised committee headed by the Tamil Nadu director of medical education gives permission.
A doctor at the hospital in Chennai said, “We have not ruled out a cadaver transplant either. We will put him on the wait-list. But that is only after he stabilises.” The 67 year old minister was taken to Chennai by a special flight from Mumbai on August 6, 2012. Deshmukh was earlier admitted at the Breach Candy Hospital and was on dialysis for three days but did not show any improvement, after which he was put on life support system.
