Popular Indian Direct to Home (DTH) service provider Dish TV, on August 7, 2012 launched its Dish+ which is India’s first standard definition set top box with USB recording facility. Unlike the other set top boxes with the recording facility in the market, the Dish + does not offer HD support and has allowed the company to offer at a price of Rs. 1,690.
Like the Dish truHD+, the Dish+ is capable of recording straight to a USB drive. This allows the user all the benefits of a traditional DVR like recording and playing back programs, different play back positions, pausing or rewinding live TV, event based recording, time based recording and so on.
At present the new Dish+ is being launched in 42 cities of phase I and phase II of digitalization and also offers an alternative for all viewers looking to shift from analog to digital. Salil Kapoor, the chief operating officer at Dish TV India said, “Dish+ is a comeback of recorders in the living room and is a clear differentiator vis-à-vis other alternatives including digital cable. Its highly competitive launch price will position it as a preferred option amongst all DTH buyers.”
The company is also offering a 4 GB USB drive with every Dish + box for a limited period.
