On August 23, 2012 the Tokyo Electric Power Co confirmed that one of the workers at the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant died after he collapsed on August 22, 2012. TEPCO said that the 57 year old man suffered a cardiac arrest when he was installing a contaminated water storage tank.

The worker had arrived at the nuclear plant at 5:35 am and started work at around 9 am. He had then informed his superiors that he was feeling unwell and was taken off duty and told to lie down and rest. At 10:35 am the worker was found unconscious and was rushed to a nearly hospital near Iwaki. The hospital officials said that the man died in a short time.
