In order to have a check on the miss- use of the mobile phone SIM cards, the government of Indian has asked the Telecom Service Providers not to provide mobile connections for more than three months to any foreign tourist visiting India.
The fresh guidelines have already come in to effect. The Department of Telecom has told the service providers that the foreigners would be provided with mobile connections only to those who have a passport with a valid visa.
According to the new guidelines, “Any mobile connection issued to a foreigner should not have a validity beyond the validity of the visa. In case of foreign tourist, the validity of connection should not be beyond the visa period and also not exceed three months at a time even if the validity of the visa is beyond three months”. The recent move has been taken in the wake of insistence that the mobile connections issued to the foreigners have been misused some of the people even after the departure of the foreign nationals from the country.
Official sources have said that the security agencies have expressed serious concerns over the failure of telecom operators in providing the details of the mobile connections especially for the pre-paid SIM cards.
