After getting an all-clear following tests for radioactivity, by the Fukushima Prefectural government last week, the rice from Fukushima Prefecture went on sale in Tokyo over the weekend. It was assured by Gov Yuhei Sato that every bag of rice harvested in Fukushima will be tested for radiation.

Till now all the bags have registered below the government set limit of 100 becquerels per kilogram. Sato also said that the prefecture expects this year’s harvest to be about 360,000 tons. Some of the supermarkets in Tokyo have set up special corners for the Fukushima rice and reported good sales. The risk of radiation had increased after the tsunami disaster last year which had spewed radiations from the Fukushima plant.
