The Civil aviation ministry has decided to introduce the flight duty times for the pilots and cabin crew at par with what aviation regulator DGCA has mandated for the industry. The Air India pilots have to work for 6.5 hours to 7 hours which is much lower than the 9 to 10 hours stipulated by the Directorate General f Civil Aviation.
Even the Air India Cabin crew unions have lesser light time limit at 100-80 hours per month compared to the 125 hours stipulated by the DGCA. The increase in the time is expected to increase the utilization of fleet and manpower and decrease the human resource cost for a long time to come.
