The Energy Smart LED bulb, is reported to have similar light output as the 40 W incandescent bulb but will also last more than 25 times as long.

John Strainic, General Manager at GE said: “Consumers have been reluctant to move away from less efficient incandescent bulbs because they love the light quality. This new GE Energy Smart® LED bulb will address that.”

The new bulb is scheduled to be released this autumn or in early 2011 and will be priced at $40-50.
