The All India Motor Transport Congress, the leading transporters’ body has called a 24 hour strike starting from September 19, midnight. The strike has been called to protest against the recent price hike of diesel prices.

The decision to strike was taken at an AIMTC emergency meeting on September 18, 2012. Malkit Singh Bal, the Association president said that 75 lakh trucks will go off the roads all over the country for a day. The Organization said that it has given 30 days to the government to take back the decision failing which the transporters will resort to an indefinite ‘chakka jam’. But still questions have been raised on the strike as the transporters have already raised the freight charges.
