Japan, on October 1, 2012 was hit by a weakening tropical storm that was speeding out of Japan. Several people in Tokyo have been injured and the storm has caused blackouts and has paralyzed traffic to the south and west of the capital.
The meteorological department of Japan has warned the residents of Tokyo to stay indoors as the Typhoon Jelawat passed on September 30, 2012. The storm had winds of up to 126 kilometers an hour, but then it weakened to a tropical storm with 108 kph in the morning.
Nagoya City, on September 30, 2012 issued an evacuation advisory to more than 50,000 residents due to the fear of floods from the rising levels of the river. The people of Ishinomaki were also issued an advisory for more than 10,000 residents in Miyagi Prefecture which was also hit by a massive tsunami last year.
About 145 people have been injured in the typhoon with minor injuries reported in southern and western Japan. More than ten thousand homes were without electricity. Media reports said that one man was swept away by sea water when he was fishing near the sea. Many trains were also halted in and around Tokyo.
