The Japanese coast guard said that four Chinese government ships were seen in territorial waters around Japan. The Chinese ships were seen hovering around the disputed islands on October 2, 2012. These islands have been a cause for concern between China and Japan for a while, in the East China Sea.
The coast guard, in a statement said that the maritime surveillance ships were seen approaching the waters after 12:30 pm. The statement also said that it had told the ships to leave the area. The coast guard said, “Patrol ships from our agency have been telling them to sail outside of our territorial waters. There has not been any response from the Chinese ships”.
The agency also released a separate statement which said that two other Chinese official ships were sailing near the islands but not in what Japan has claimed to be their territory. This is the first report in about a week when Chinese ships have entered the waters after the political spat between the countries over the disputed islands.
Both the countries have been at logger heads over the islands which are known as Senkaku in Japan and Diaoyu in China. The area was on Monday hit by the typhoon Jelawat, but now the weather is calm.
