AsiaBizz.com: The poll dates for the states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh will be announced by the Election Commission of India on October 3, 2012. The Indian states are schedules to go to polls later in the year.
The dates of the assembly polls for the two states were finalized by the commission in a meeting, which was chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath. The meeting was also attended by the Election Commissioners Nasim Zaidi and HS Brahma and other officials on October 3, 2012.
There are possibilities that the elections might be held in the month of November-December, after giving due consideration to the Indian festivals of Navratri and Diwali. Meanwhile, the Chief minister of Gujarat, Narendra Modi is looking forward to his third consecutive term in the office.
Modi had taken BJP to victory in the assembly elections, which were held in the year 2007, while bagging 117 of the 182 seats. The elections in Gujarat are likely to be held in two phases, while the elections in Himachal Pradesh are expected to be held in a single phase. The Election Commission has already consulted with the Home Ministry for the deployment of central security forces during elections.
There will also be a thorough check in the misuse of money power during elections.
