Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Social Networking success story ‘Facebook’ has stated that the website has reached 1 billion active users according to NBC’s Today show. The milestone was reached on September 14th at 12.45 pm PT, and this figure implies that one in every seventh person in the world is now on Facebook; a big achievement for a social network which was started in a dorm room in 2004.
The 1 billion user mark is composed of real people as opposed to bot traffic and other sources of fake traffic according to NBC, and if these figures were to be accumulated into a country then Facebook would be the third largest country in the world in terms of population; being beaten only by China and India.
Zuckerberg went on to thank everyone reading his note on Facebooks online newsroom about the magic figure, saying that it was an honor to serve everyone on facebook and help 1 billion people connect with each other. He also mentioned that he was humbled by the feat and it was what he was most proud of in his life.
The median age of Facebook users is going down, in July 2010 when the site hit 500 million users, the median age was 23 and now it has gone down to 22 according to popular reports.
