Apart from having to face a probable licence cancellation for Kingfisher Airlines as well as not being able to pay staff salaries, Vijay Mallya will now have another problem on his hands. The Indian businessman is now in trouble with the law, as the court of Hyderabad has ordered the arrest of Mallya on the charges of ‘bounced cheques’.
According to media reports, a non-bailable warrant has been issued against Mallya. The decision of arresting the Kingfisher Airline chief has been taken after the airline failed to honor cheques worth Rs. 10.3 crore, which was issued to the GMR International report.
Moreover, the lockout on the airlines has been extended up to next weekend. The airline was forced to announce the lockout after violence by staffers due to the non-payment of their salaries. The employees have been protesting against the non-payment of their salaries for the last 7 months.
Sources from the airline said that an internal mail has cited operational reasons for the lockout of the airline till October 20, 2012. The mail had come after the CEO Sanjay Aggarwal had appealed to the staffers to return to work. The CEO was earlier quoted saying that he also hasn’t received his salary. After the announcement of the lockout, the DGCA told Vijay Mallya to stop selling tickets.
