Former Indian cricketer Muhammed Azharuddin has now been relieved of a life ban from the sport, which was earlier imposed on him. The Andhra Pradesh High Court in Hyderabad upheld the ex-cricketer’s petition against the ban, after a report in 2000 by the Central Bureau of Investigation found the cricketer guilty of corruption.
The court argued that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had acted unilaterally in terms of imposing the ban. The ban was lifted after agreeing with Azharuddin’s lawyers that there wasn’t any evidence against the former cricketer that he succumbed to any pressure while playing cricket. The BCCI has not yet decided whether or not to appeal the court’s ruling.
