Indian auto manufacturing giant Mahindra will be launching its new SUV across 9 cities in the country. Named the Ssangyong Rexton, the car is set to be rolled out in phases from November 20, 2012 in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Chandigharh, Pune, Patiala and Ludhiana.

The chief executive of the automotive division of the company, Pravin Shah, said that the launch of the vehicle on October 17, 2012 marked a ‘momentous occasion’ on their journey so far. He said that the Indian customers will now be able to purchase the hi-end SUV in 7 more cities. Shah was confident that the Rexton will be able to carve a niche for itself in the Indian market, as it has the right mix of refinement, style, performance and indulgence.

There are two variants for the Rexton, they are the RX5 and RX7. Between the two, the base model is the RX5, which comes with Torque-on-demand and a five-speed manual gearbox. This all-wheel drive model is set to give 12.4 kmpl, according to the ARAI test.

The higher end RX7 has the same 2699 cc turbo charged, five cylinder engine; however, the RX7 generates 184 bhp and 402 Nm. This model also has a five-speed manual gearbox, with buttons on the steering wheel to change gears. According to ARAI this model will give 11.18 kmpl.

Currently Mahindra plans on selling 500 models, available in white, purple, black and silver.
