Petrol and diesel is something that will not last as a fuel source forever. The next best alternatives to such cars is an electric car. One of the latest electric vehicles to hit the market is Fiat’s 500e, which gives an average of 87 miles-per-charge. Fiat claims that the 500e’s mileage is better than that of other cars in the same segment.
The all-electric 500e has a horsepower of 111 bhp, which propels the car to a maximum speed of 85 mph. It is powered by a 24-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery with an approximate charge time of less than 4 hours on a 240-volt level 2 charging.
The other electric vehicles present in today’s market are – The Smart Fortwo Electric Drive (with a mileage of 68 miles), Mitsubishi i-MiEV (with a mileage of 62 miles) and the Nissan Leaf (with a mileage of 73 miles).
Fiat’s 500e’s mile-per-gallon equivalent is 116 on city or highway (with a 122 MPGe city rating and a 108 MPGe highway rating). A full year of driving (around 15,000 miles) will cost around USD 500 for charging. Mitsubishi’s i-MiEV’s estimated annual cost for charging is about USD 550, while for the Nissan Leaf and The Smart Fortwo Electric drive costs around USD 600.
The Fiat 500e is expected to go on sale in the second quarter of 2013 and the state of California shall be the first too see it.
