For the first time this winter, Tokyo was covered with snow in the Kanto and Koshin regions on January 14, 2013. The snowfall began in the central region of Tokyo at around 10 am.

The Japanese Meteorological Agency informed the media that up to 40 cm of snowfall in the Tokyo metropolitan region was recorded by 6 pm. There were also disruptions to the train and plane services. Japanese-based airline JAL, as per 2 pm, cancelled 193 flights in Haneda. Even ANA cancelled 116 flights.

In terms of train services, the Tokaido line has been disrupted from Tokyo to Atami. Even the Tokyo to Kurihama line on the Yokosuka line has been disrupted, including the Keihin Tohoku line. So far about 19 injuries have been reported in the Tokyo metropolitan region as of 3 pm.

The Fire Department officials and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police have urged people to be careful while coming out in the snow. Usually many injuries are reported whenever there is snowfall in Tokyo. People on the sidewalk slip and get injured. The temperature in the region fell by 10 to 12 degrees and Fuyun Country registered a temperature of -40 degrees. Even the China Meteorological department has issued a blue cold alert and forecasts low temperatures for the next few days.
