Computer manufacturing giant Acer has unveiled its affordable Iconia B1 tablet with a dual-core 1.2 GHz Media Tek processor. The tablet also features a 7-inch display and runs on Android 4.1 Jelly bean. The new device has been launched for the Indian market.

The compact gadget has been powered by a low-power dual-core mobile processor and comes with 8 GB of storage. The tablet has been designed specifically for users who wish to read ebooks, play games, browse the web and connect to social networking sites. The Iconia B1 has been priced at Rs. 7,999.

Acer is yet another company to jump into the affordable tablet segment (under Rs. 10,000). After the recent launch of Asus Google Nexus 7, many of the tablet manufacturers have come up with new entries in the sub-Rs. 10,000 range. The features of the device include a 7-inch LCD display with a 1024 x 600 pixel resolution, along with multi-touch.

A part of the Iconia B1’s on-board storage will be reserved for updates as well. The memory of the device can be expanded up to 32 GB through micro SD cards. The new tablet also has a 0.3 megapixel front-facing camera which clicks portrait images and supports video chat. The Iconia B1 is ideally meant for educational and training purposes, but will be a handy addition while travelling.
