The officials of the Tokyo Skytree said on January 16, 2013, that a huge chunk of snow fell from the tower and crashed on the roof of a home near the tower. A spokesperson of the Tokyo tower Ayumi Kimura, said that the snow crash had left a 30-centimeter hole in the roof of the house.

The spokesperson added that the chunk of snow which fell from the tower hit the roof of the house which covers the veranda area.  Kimura went on to say, “The snow was found splashed over the veranda, but no one was injured”. On January 14, 2013, the Japanese capital was covered with snow, which left two people dead and 1,600 injured.

Most people were injured due to car accidents or slipping on icy streets. The tower officials have deployed about 60 security guards on the ground near the steel structure who will constantly warn passers by of the possibility of falling of ice.

However, this is not the first time Tokyo is facing such a problem. In 2012, four similar accidents happened when snow fell off the tower and even left holes in the roofs of the nearby houses or commercial buildings. Japan has, in recent times, faced heavy snowfall which has affected business as well as daily routine.
