On January 18, 2013, the fast food giant announced that it is going to begin a promotion known as Free Monday. According to the new offer, customers will get one  breakfast item for free from the entire breakfast selection. With the new promotion, the company expects to increase the number of those customers coming in early in the morning for a bite.

Until February 4, 2013, customers who visit McDonalds between 6 am to 9 am on Mondays, will get a free breakfast item. The campaign began on Monday January 21, 2013, with a free Sausage McMuffin. The free item will be given with a small coffee on January 28, 2013 and a free hashbrown on February 4, 2013. The president and CEO of McDonalds Japan, Eikoh Harada, at a press conference said, “Almost everyone has had the experience of dining out, but those who eat breakfast at a restaurant is just 1 in 3. We hope to draw in those who would normally eat at home or at a convenience store.”

Harada also said that their goal is to raise the breakfast items from 15% to 20%. The first ceremonial freebie was handed over by the CEO himself.
