Indian telecommunications giant Reliance Communications, along with tech heavyweight Lenovo, will be launching five Android smartphones for the Indian market soon. The Android smartphones will support CDMA and GSM and will be launched in the Indian market by the month of March 2013.

A spokesperson from Reliance Communications said, “RCom and Lenovo will launch five co-branded Android smartphones under Rs 8,000 by March in the country and they will be available with attractive tariff plans that will be announced during the launch of smartphones.” The spokesperson added that all the smartphones will be Dual SIM and the CDMA SIM will be locked for the Reliance network.

A user will be free to choose the GSM SIM of any operator. The smartphones will be powered by a 1 GHz processor and customers will also be able to avail of a range of products and special customer plans, which will be available across 2,500 Reliance stores as well as 1,000 company stores belonging to Lenovo.

Sources have revealed that the partnership will not be limited to just the smartphones and the two companies are also planning to launch co-branded tablets which are expected to be priced at around Rs. 12,000.
