The mass production of electric power and home energy systems has begun by NEC Corp at the company's Computertechno’s Kofu City campus. NEC, in March 2012, had begun selling home energy storage systems which were being produced at its Sagamihara facilities. These systems also started shipping later in the month of July 2012.
On February 15, 2013, NEC has launched a new mass production line in Kofu City, Yamanishi Prefecture which is capable of producing 10,000 units per year. Moreover, the company also has plans of establishing an additional line during the second half of the financial year, which raises its annual production capacity to 20,000 units.
Apart from its home energy systems, NEC Computertechno’s Kofu campus is also producing demonstration equipment for middle and large scale energy storage systems, for Japan’s Yokohoma Smart City. The company said that it will continue to produce electrodes for lithium–ion batteries and battery cells for energy storage systems at its Sagamihara facilities.
In recent times, there has been a need for greater power conservation, due to this, businesses and households have increasingly become conscious of reducing their power consumption. Moreover, the need for energy storage systems to provide and maintain a lifeline of power in the event of emergencies like natural disasters and power outages has also increased.
