The Indian state of Nagaland, has in the first three hours of voting, experienced a 30 percent turnout. The elections for the state’s 60-member House has begun today on February 23, 2013, amid tight security. Today the elections are being held for 59 seats after the sudden death of the Congress candidate P Chuba Chang of Teunsang sadar seat on February 22, 2013.
The polling was adjourned by the Election Commission in the constituency, to be held on a later date. According to official sources, no untoward incident has been reported from any part of the state. Earlier, two people were killed and two others were injured in poll-related violence in the Teunsang and Wokha district.
Long queues of voters have been seen in polling stations since morning. Reports from the polling stations at Lhodhoeghar, under the Tamlu constituency, fell under the disputed areas in Assam. Security arrangements have been made peacefully, while free and fair polls with a total of 225 companies of the central Primary force were deployed for providing security at the polling stations.
On the other hand, the balloting in Meghalaya had been conducted peacefully on Saturday morning. People came out to vote despite a shutdown which was called by an outlawed group.
