V. Seshadri, the district collector, has started off the second phase of a pulse polio immunization program near the Tycoon Hotel in Visakhapatnam, India. The collector began the program by administering polio drops to a child below five years on February 24, 2013.

Seshadri, while speaking on the occasion, said that two drops of pulse polio can save the child and vanish poliomyelitis from the country. The collector added that the parents must shed all false beliefs and notions and come forward to immunize their children between the age group of 0-5 years.

In case of any issue, the parents can also consult an expert or a health personnel. The collector informed that even if the children are administered polio drops twice by mistake, it does not have any adverse effect on them. R Shyamala, the District Health and Medical officer said that health workers and all stakeholders in the mission are engaged throughout the day in trying to reach the targeted children in the district.

The service has engaged special medical teams to cover all children, in addition to the 107 mobile services. Officials have reached inaccessible areas in the area well in advance, so as to cover the children in the tribal community.
